Art Skool Recess Interest Query:
Some people have been asking me about Art Skool Recess.. and if/when it will be starting up again. It was a hit while it lasted.. but it was a little hard to maintain on my own. I think I've got more people interested in it this time but.. I wanted to test this idea out further.

This is an information gathering mission:

*Does anyone remember the Art Skool Recess group from 2 summers ago?
*Is anyone interested in forming a communal art group that would pool materials and resources, share ideas, work together, and participate in selling the artwork produced?

*If you're still with me, are you interested in participating on a weekly or semi-regular basis?

*Do you know of free or super cheap locations to meet?

So what is/was Art Skool Recess? Well, I'll tell you:Collapse )

...and.. all that abuse from the peanut gallery just excites me so much early in the morning.

x-posted. no complaints. artists like to do sick things with power tools to those that oppose their 'vision'.

Sunday School
"when there is an outside authority it creates a kind of slavery. a christian becomes a slave, the same happens to a mohammedan. when god is there commanding, you can be at the most a servant or a slave. you lose all dignity."

"for zen, man is the goal; man is the end unto himself. god is not something above humanity, god is something hidden within humanity. man is carrying god in himself as a potentiality."

"god will destroy your freedom. god will dominate you."

"life is moving in a harmony, of its own accord. there is nobody outisde it giving commandments. when there is an outside authority it creates a kind of slavery."

"without freedom there is no flowering. how can you come to your optimum manifestation when there is a god confining you, condemning you, forcing you this way and that, manipulating you?"

"...with god, man will remain in fear. in fear how can you bloom?"

"...when there is no god, there is tremendous freedom, there is no authority in existence."

"...if you are dominated by somebody you cannot feel responsible. authority necessarily creates irresponsibility; authority creates resistance; authority creates reaction, rebellion in you - you would like to kill god."

"to live without god requires great courage..."

"man is responsible for himself and for the world he lives in. if there is suffering, you are responsible; there is nobody else to look to. ...if the world is ugly and is in pain, we are responsible; there is nobody else."

"theology arises with one book. ...a book that pretends to be holy..."

"theology contaminates religion. there is no difference between a mohammedan and a christian and a hindu as far as religion is concerned, but there is geat difference as far as theology is concerned. ...people have been fighting because of theology.
religion is one; theologies are many. ...it is all meaningless because there is no way to prove god and there is no way to disprove god. argumentation is irrelevant."

"...because of theology, religion becomes poisoned. a really religious person has no theology."

"theology is politics, it divides people. and if you can divide people you can rule them."

"...people have lived with theologies and those theologies keep them childish, they don't allow them to grow. ...you cannot grow; you don't have enough space to grow. you are confined very much, in a very narrow space; you are imprisoned."

X-posted in other H-ville communties...
If you're interested in any visual art goings on in H-ville you should read this:

Hey guys,

Maybe you know and maybe you don't, but TripiQ is an art group based out of Huntsville and in the last six months we have been extremely busy trying to build some sort of foundation for visual art in this town. Our goal is to combat the apathy in this city and prove to the nay-sayers that there IS quite a bit of talent here.

-You may know us as the two guys who manage the wall space for SWOOP at Parkway City Mall and Madison Square Mall. Our goal for those areas is to provide younger artists (12-21) with an opportunity to display artwork in a highly visible area. It is all for sale and only a 10% consignment (which of course goes to a charitable association) is taken from the artist.

-You may have also seen our art gallery in Lowe Mill, next door to The Burning Nun. It is open, but still under construction. Our eventual goal for that place is to offer pristine, museum type wall space for talented local artists. Check it out and if you are interested in displaying there, feel free to contact me.

-TripiQ is also building a website where you can see every one of our paintings from the comfort of your computer chair: www.tripiqart.net
Like the gallery, it is open but under construction.

-Lastly, if you befriend this LJ you'll be kept up-to-date with all kinds of artistic/TripiQ events throughout H-ville.

=We have spent a considerable amount of time and money trying to help create an art culture in Huntsville...I hope that you will take the time to see what we have been up to.

ART SKOOL RECESS: TONIGHT! (X-Posted)

================== ART SKOOL RECESS ====================

ART SKOOL RECESS IS STILL KICKING ASS! We shall soon infect the populace and become the dominant force in the art community. Innocents be warned! If you want to be part of it, you'll have to catch up! Many thanks to those that turned out last time, we had a great time and were so productive for so many new faces, it was amazing.

WE'LL SEE YOU TONIGHT!!! SAME BAT-TIME, SAME BAT-CHANNEL!

all the major art movements in history involve some kind of close-knit collaboration of like-minded artists of vastly different backgrounds. a lot of the time they workded individually, but some of the time they worked together, influencing eachother stylistically and motivating eachother just by osmosis.

so i thought of some themes that were MY personal background, though they can arguably be called fundamentals of a certain kind of movement. abstract expressionism, german expressionism, surrealism, and a recent much debated concept - deconstructionism.

artists to look up: jackson pollock, jean-michel basquiat, toulouse lautrec, egon schiele, oskar kokoschka, andy warhol.. so many. please share your favorite artists. someone the younger crowd might appreciate: John John Jesse.

Hey guys!

My name is Vaughn and I am one member of the H-ville art group TripiQ. The most visible piece we have around town is the large abstract angel in Parkway City Mall just below the food court.

I just wanted to introduce myself and say that it is great to have a LJ communtiy devoted to H-ville art.

Feel free to check out the TripiQ LJ (and hopefully befriend it) and let me know what you think.
